Seeing Is Believing For Athletes at the Winter Olympics
The man who helped Great Britain win its last Winter Olympic Gold Medal says “simply visualising winning” could be the key for athletes in Vancouver.
Dr William Holden, author of self-development book, ‘the guide’, has been cited by the Gold Medal winning British Women’s Curling Team as instrumental in their success at Salt Lake City.
Now Dr Holden says similar success could come to Great Britain’s athletes at this year’s Games if they imagine what it feels like to be wearing Gold, and believe they can win…..
‘You have to go into any sporting arena believing you can be the best. Picture in your head what it feels and looks like to be standing on the podium. Block out all those negative people who say Great Britain never do well in the Winter Olympics and channel positive thoughts into your performance.’
Dr Holden got involved with the Curling Team after Fiona MacDonald saw a massive change in her boss at the Bank of Scotland following a workshop he attended with Dr Holden’s company, Sewells.
He worked with the team prior to the Olympics, helping them visualise what success looked and felt like. By the time Rhona Martin won with the last throw she’d visualised the shot a thousand times already in her head.
