BTG

The Challenge

BTG is an international specialist healthcare company that develops and commercialises products targeting critical care, cancer, neurological and other disorders.

Sewells’ first contact with BTG came after BTG’s acquisition of Protherics PLC in late 2009 as Sewells had worked with Protherics since 2005. Our relationship has continued to grow.
Following its acquisition of Protherics plc, BTG instigated a series of Vision and Values workshops to over 300 people around the UK.

In 2010 Sewells worked with BTG to support the implementation of a new appraisal and objective setting process for certain parts of its business, which was intended to create real momentum with the rate at which their vision and values were being implemented.

BTG realised that for this to happen they would need everyone to be standing shoulder to shoulder and playing their full part, all striving for excellence in the execution of their performance.

They identified the following 5 areas of focus:-

• The BTG team should be united towards driving operational excellence.
• They each have clearly defined plans, outcomes, expectations and personal accountabilities.
• They trust and support each other, even when decisions don’t go their way.
• They know their actions impact the business, the division and ultimately the bottom line results.
• They are passionate about everyone in the team succeeding and genuinely add value in everything they do.

Sewells Action

Sewells solution to the challenge was to take the team through a ‘Making it Happen,’ workshop.

The first 40 minutes of the day were spent reminding the team of some of the powerful breakthrough principles they had been exposed to on the “Vision and Values,” sessions. Sewells gently challenged the way they had been thinking and feeling about their area of work in terms of the objectives, the business, their colleagues and their own strengths and weaknesses.

What was important to get from this workshop was not just a motivated team but one which had tangible plans for improvement. Plans they could take ownership of and be accountable for. These things combined would guarantee the sustainability of the impact of the workshop long after its completion.

Throughout the workshop the team were reminded what drives their own and other people’s behaviour, attitudes and actions. The picture of ‘where they were going,’ was re-established and practical ways of turning it into reality were planned and agreed.

The big focus for BTG was understanding how to create brilliant team working within teams and developing terrific team spirit between teams. They were shown how collective performance complements individual performance and how becoming “change champions” would instil a sense of pride in the workforce.

What Sewells Achieved for BTG

By the end of the workshop they were well on the way to being in a position where, in any given work situation, they could look a colleague in the eye and say, ‘I gave it EVERYTHING.’

BTG believes it has seen a consequential improvement in results.
